Did you know that moving is classified as one of the three most stressful things a person can do? While apartment living is exciting, and you might be looking forward to your new home, there are some things you can do (and some you should avoid!) to help move the process along.
Keep reading to find out the move-in mistakes you need to avoid when it comes to luxury apartment living.
Hiring Movers Without Vetting Them
When moving into a luxury apartment, the last thing you need is for your items to be damaged or even go missing. While we understand the need to save money where you can, the moving company is not the place to scrimp.
There are hundreds of movers available, so vetting them is a must. Hiring the cheapest moving company can end up costing you if your items need to be fixed or replaced. So check references and look at reviews before picking a moving company.
Not Checking Out the Amenities
The amenities should have been one of the first things you asked about when you looked at the space. If you didn't do this when touring the space, you wouldn't know what to expect.
For example, there's no point in bringing your washer and dryer with you if your space already has one installed. You would just end up wasting money having it moved, and then you're stuck with it until you can either store it or sell it. This causes unnecessary clutter and stress in your new home.
Not Purchasing Renter’s Insurance
Renters' insurance protects your belongings against a wide range of things, including:
- loss
- damage
- destruction
- burglaries
- natural disasters
- your liability if someone is injured at your home
Renters' insurance is also a requirement for many apartments and communities, so you don't want to realize on move-in day that you aren't allowed to actually move your things in.
Not Purging Before Packing
When you're moving out, it is tempting to just pack everything you own and then sort it while moving into your new space, but this is not a good idea!
While you might have kept some things for sentimental value, now would be the perfect time to get rid of some unused or lower-quality items. You might even have forgotten about some of these items as you bought newer replacements for them over the years.
If you take these items with you, there's a good chance they will end up in your new luxury apartment. So don't waste packing space (and supplies!) on items you won't end up using.
Luxury Apartment Living Made Easy
When it comes to luxury apartment living, it is important to remember less is more. Don't bring things into your apartment that you know you'll never use, it will just make the space seem cluttered.
